10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (August 2016)
Once again, I Love Memphis has teamed up with Volunteer Odyssey to bring you unique ways to give back to our city this month. Here are ten fun volunteer opportunities in Memphis in July 2016.

Help end the Bridge Builders summer conference season and start the beginning of the school year by volunteering at YOUnified. Volunteers are needed for different shifts from 3-9:30pm, including perimeter security, signage, check-in set up, entertainment/tech crew, and passport crew.
2. Thistle & Bee and the Lisieux Community’s Crumble Rumble: Saturday, August 6 from 10am-noon
Help raise awareness for women who have survived trafficking and prostitution by volunteering to crumble herbs from the Thistle & Bee gardens.
3. Meritan Midnight Classic Bike Tour and Lunar Festival: Saturday, August 6 from 10pm-3am
Come on out to this family friendly night of fun. See people bling their bikes and even bling themselves. Meritan, Inc. needs volunteers for food setup, registration, greeting, water stations, manning the corners, take down, food handout, and more.
4. Tile Making Day at the Carpenter Art Garden: Saturday, August 13 from 9am-2pm
Show your creativity by coming out to the Carpenter Art Garden for Tile Making Day. The Art Garden needs help making new tiles for their new mosaic sculpture garden.
5. Bingo Party benefitting Creative Aging: Thursday, August 18 from 5:30-7:30pm
Do you enjoy spending time with friendly seniors in the Memphis community? If so, join them at a Bingo Party! Volunteers are needed to help with gust check-in, Bingo games, and distributing prizes.
6. Habitat for Humanity’s Children’s Room Volunteer: Thursdays from 6-8pm starting August 18th
Have a love for children? Help out at Memphis Habitat’s Children’s room by playing with children from ages 3 to 13 while their parents attend financial education classes. Whether you read a book, help with homework, or organize games to play, you’re bound to enjoy time with these amazing kids.
7. Pink Palace presents the Science of Wine: Friday, August 19 from 5:30-10pm
Want to see a polar bear, shrunken head dinosaurs, and learn about the best wine around? Join the Pink Palace as they host a fundraiser for the Education Department of The Palace Family of Museums. Volunteers will be needed to help with the pouring stations, the arts and crafts, directions, the set up stations, and more. Must be at least 21 to volunteer.
8. The Most Amazing Race: Saturday, August 20 from 7am-1:30pm
It’s not just a race; it’s the Most Amazing Race. Join the journey downtown. Help with registration, parking, welcoming, monitoring the course, manning water stations, and more.
9. MIFA’s Taking It to the Streets: Saturday, August 20 from 9am-noon
Join MIFA as they take it to the streets and work to clean surrounding Memphis neighborhoods. This is an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to work together and get to know one another while helping to beautify the streets in 38126, Memphis’ poorest zip code.
10. Best Memphis Burger Fest: Sunday, August 28 from 10:30am-6pm
Enjoy a juicy burger while volunteering at Best Memphis Burger Fest! This fest will feature about 40 cooking teams competing for the title of Best Memphis Burger. Volunteers are needed to man the judging tent, help with parking, event set up, and more. Volunteers will even be able to sample all the burgers before or after their assigned shift(s).
VolunCheers benefitting Clean Memphis: Tuesday, August 9th from 6-7:30pm.
Join Volunteer Odyssey for a volunteer happy hour. It’s a great way to fit volunteering into your busy schedule and meet new people. Drinks and snacks are provided.
