10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (July 2016)

Once again, I Love Memphis has teamed up with Volunteer Odyssey to bring you unique ways to give back to our city this month. Here are ten fun volunteer opportunities in Memphis in July 2016.

VO_LOGO square1. Levitt Shell: Every Thursday through Sunday from 4:30-10pm

Come out for a night of fun every Thursday through Sunday! The Shell needs volunteers to collect donations, set up, clean up, valet bikes, and much more. Flexible shifts and times plus great music while you work.

2. Carpenter Art Garden’s Tile Making Day: Saturday, July 9th from 9am to 2pm

If you’re artistic (or just wish you were!), come on out to help your Binghampton neighbors with their new mosaic sculpture garden. Play with the students and enjoy a fun afternoon of arts and crafts. All ages welcome.

3. Vision Prep Charter School’s Furniture Build: Saturday, July 9th from 9am to noon

Be a builder for Vision Prep’s Furniture Build! 50 classroom desks need to be assembled for the upcoming school year. Bonus: free pizza for volunteers!

4. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee’s Big Mobile Food Distribution: Thursday, July 14th from 10am -12pm

Feed over 300 households by bagging and readying food for distribution. You can make a difference by making sure our neighbors have enough to eat this summer.

5. ITN Memphis Volunteer Driver Program Information Session and “Ride-A-Long”: Thursday, July 14th from 10-11:15am

Have some free time on your hands and want to give a ride to someone in need? This is the opportunity for you! Attend an information session and “ride-a-long” with volunteer drivers for a short drive as they transport ITN customers (seniors and people with visual impairments) wherever they would like to go within the Memphis Metropolitan Area. Whether ITN customers want to go shopping, to visit friends, or need transportation to a medical appointment, volunteers can help customers get to their dream destination.

6. JobLINC Career Fair: Thursday, July 28 from 8am-4pm

Join the Memphis Public Library at their career fair for the Memphis community. Volunteer for one of two shifts (8am-noon or noon-4pm) by helping with registration, crowd control, events, and much more!

7. MIFA’s Meals on Wheels: Every Monday through Friday from 8:30am-noon

Lend your wheels to deliver meals with MIFA.  Meals on Wheels brings warm meals to homebound seniors every weekday. Bring a friend along on your drive for an even more enjoyable experience – and a little help on the side.

8. Volunteer Happy Hour: Tuesday, July 12 from 6:00 – 7:30

Join Volunteer Odyssey for VolunCheers benefitting the DeNeuville Learning Center! With our volunteer happy hour, you can fit volunteering into your busy schedule and meet new people. Drinks and snacks are provided.

9. Usher for Theatre Memphis’ Oliver: Thursdays from 6:45 to 10pm and Sundays from 1:15 to 5pm

Want to share your sparkling smile with some fellow Memphians? Volunteer as an usher for Theatre Memphis’ shows Oliver! As an usher you will fulfill a variety of duties, such as greeting patrons or selling concessions.

10. Memphis Farmers Market: Every Saturday from 6am-1:30pm.  

Join local farmers and vendors every Saturday. If you want to give back to your community and educate people about eating healthy, volunteering at the Memphis Farmers Market is a great opportunity for you! Volunteers are essential to a successful market day. Whether you’d like to roll up your sleeves and get some dirt on your hands or man the pet sitting tent, there are tons of ways to help each Saturday.
