Happy Friday, Memphis! It’s been a week of huge, monster posts about Memphis Holiday Events and Thanksgiving openings, and this post is another big one. Here are the five things you can’t miss in Memphis this weekend (plus a few extras).

1. Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, Hilton Memphis, Friday – Sunday, all day, $15 single day ($20 Sat.) / $35 full festival

The Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention is three glorious days of geekery that kicks off today (Friday) at 4 p.m. There will be panels, gaming, costumes (and a cosplay/anime costume contest), and visiting artists and writers.

2. Memphis International Jazz Festival, South Main Arts District, Nov. 20 – 22, $0 – $20
The Memphis International Jazz Festival includes a concert at Central Station on Friday ($20), panel discussions at 409 S. Main and free live music at Central BBQ on Saturday and a free Jazz Jam at Ernestine and Hazel’s Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

3. Christmas In Whitehaven, Friday – Sunday, all weekend, free, all ages/kid-friendly
This is a busy weekend of kicking off the holidays in the Graceland/Whitehaven area. On Friday at 6 p.m., country star Trisha Yearwood flips the switch to light up Graceland’s signature blue holiday lights. Saturday at 10 a.m. is the Whitehaven Christmas parade. Sunday at 4 p.m. is a free holiday choral concert at Abundant Grace Church.

4. Spillit Story Grand Slam, Amurica, Friday, doors at 6:30 p.m., $10 cash, all ages
Winners of Slams from the whole year will compete for title of Grand Master Storyteller and the theme is M-E-M-P-H-I-S. This is going to be amazing. Be sure to arrive early for the 7 p.m. show; seating is limited.

5. Nut Remix, Canon Center, Friday – Sunday, times vary, $15 – $50, all ages/kid firendly
New Ballet Ensemble school performs their annual mash-up of dance styles – including ballet,  African,  jookin,  and more – to bring a new twist to the traditional Nutcracker, accompanied by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The show is at 7:30 p.m. on Fri. 5:30 p.m. on Sat., and 2:30 p.m. on Sun.

There is officially too much to do this weekend. Here are some more:

I’ve written a post about Opera Memphis’ The Magic Flute, an operatic fairy tale with an impressive cast plays on Friday and Saturday nights at GPAC. I”m hearing great things about this show!

I’ve already written about PIPPIN the musical as well, which shows all weekend at the Orpheum. I saw it on Tuesday, and if you’re looking for a circus-stunt-filled, fun, sexy performance with a vibrant cast,  don’t miss it.

On Friday, the Grizz take on the Rockets at home at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, they play the Spurs at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio. The Memphis Tigers football team plays Temple in Philly at 11 a.m. on Saturday Watch on ESPNU.

The Memphis Potters Guild has their annual Holiday Show at Sale at MBG all weekend. Go here for more holiday markets.

On Friday, the Mid-South Peace & Justice Center hosts the #MyMSPJC Sustain the Funk house party fundraiser with music, art bazaar, food, and more.

On Saturday, you have some great choices to pick from for live music: Terry Prince & the Principles at Murphy’s, Toy Trucks, Switchblade Kid, and more at the Buc, Graham Winchester at DKDC, and the Memphis Dawls Vinyl release show at Young Ave. Deli.

Saturday is the hilarious mean roast comedy show “You Look Like A Comedy Show” at the P&H at 9 p.m.

Tons of ongoing Memphis holiday events get their kickoff this weekend, including the Downtown Tree Lighting (5 p.m Friday at Main St. and Peabody Place),  Zoo Lights, Starry Nights at Shelby Farms, Enchanted Forest at Pink Palace, plus photos with Santa at Oak Court Mall and Carriage Crossing get started on Saturday.

For info on the above events plus a ton more, go here.

None of these float your boat? Check out the calendar for more events. Don’t see your event on the list? Submit here here. Don’t forget to check out here for weekly guides, plus more Memphis-loving every day on this blog, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Have a great weekend!

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
