5 Things To Do In Memphis This Weekend: 8/7 - 8/9

Happy Friday Memphis! Here are the five things you won't want to miss in Memphis this weekend.

1. Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend, Tennessee, all weekend, depends on what you buy, all ages
This weekend, avoid paying tax on clothing (including shoes), school and art supplies, and computers. There are a few restrictions, go here for more info

2. Backstage Bash, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 6 p.m., $40, 21 and up
If you've been to Orpheum shows, but want to see the view from the stage, go to Backstage Bash tonight. There will be food from local restaurants including Central BBQ, plus local beer and specialty cocktails. Super 5 will join you onstage for live music and dancing. 

3. "Passing", Buckman PAC, Saturday, 2:30 p.m. and 7 pm., $25 adults/$15 students, 18 and up
Memphis contemporary dance collective Racine + Southern Dance will put on their biggest performance yet. "Passing" will feature eight original pieces choreographed and performed by company members. 

4. Muck Sticky, 1884 Lounge at Minglewood Hall, Saturday, doors and show at 7 p.m., free, all ages
Memphis' own Muck Sticky's brand of fun, funky hip-hop and rap comes to the 1884 Lounge at Minglewood for a free all ages show and music video shoot.

5. Sunday Funday Art Show, High Cotton Taproom, Sunday, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., free to attend, 21 and up
Head to High Cotton Brewery (598 Monroe Ave.) in the Edge District and shop from a curated group of talented local artists, many of whom have a focus on Memphis-inspired art. There's a $3.50 pint special plus grub from Memphis food truck Gourmade.

Also going on this weekend: Cooper Young Art Tour is tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring pop-up "art walls" at businesses and galleries. The Rec Room will have an "MTV Jams" old-school DJ night tonight starting at 9 p.m. Mid-South Spay & Neuter Services will have their annual "puppy pool party" on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tobey Field Dog Park with pools, treats, and more to keep your pups cool (the high is 95 on Saturday).
