Happy Birthday, Elvis! It’s the King’s 80th Birthday This Week
We can't get away with just one Elvis Week in Memphis. There's the big Elvis Week in August commemorating the King's passing, and a slightly chiller Elvis "Week" for his birthday on January 8.
Later this week, I'll have more ideas for how to celebrate.
Wednesday, January 7th:

11:59 p.m. at Graceland Gates. Two fan clubs sing familiar gospel songs and "Happy Birthday" to Elvis at midnight; fans are invited to join in.
Thursday, January 8th:
– Birthday Proclamation, Cake, and Conversations
At 9:30 a.m. on Graceland's North Lawn, Priscilla Presley will preside over a birthday cake cutting and proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by city and county officials. You can watch the live stream here. At 10:30 a.m., free coffee and cake will be served at the Chrome Grill. At 1 p.m. at the Memphis Airport Holiday Inn, several speakers who knew Elvis will give a talk. Tickets are $20.

Meet at the Backbeat Tours ticket window at BB King's (143 Beale St.) for a musical tour of all the Elvis sites around town, i.e Sun Studio, Overton Park Shell, Lansky Bros., Memphian Theatre, and more. Opt for a longer tour that also goes to Lauderdale Courts, where Elvis lived with his parents. Tickets are $16 – $47. Go here to check times.
– Tribute To Elvis: Birthday Celebration
The Memphis Symphony Orchestra performs Elvis' biggest hits at 7:30 p.m. at the Cannon Center. Tickets are $5 – $85 through the MSO website.
Also during Elvis Week, you can walk up to the Meditation Garden at Graceland for free from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. daily and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on January 8, 9, and 10. If you want to learn more about The Guest House at Graceland hotel, which is scheduled to open in late 2015, you can stop by the Showroom at Graceland Crossing daily from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
