News Update: Beale Street Spotted In South Korea Edition

In today's news update, we have a South Korean Beale Street, an I Love Memphis radio appearance, a wandering gnome, and more.

First, I've updated the Guide to Valentine's Day in Memphis, with a few more events for singles and lovebirds alike. (Most of the additions are in the 2nd section.)

My friend Matt is a teacher in South Korea and he saw this restaurant a few days ago. According to him, it was "pretty good".

I'm happy to announce that I'll be a regular guest on MemphiSport Live radio the second Saturday of each month with hosts Kevin Cerrito and Marcus Hunter. I started this week talking about my time hanging out with the Travelocity gnome and ideas for celebrating Valentine's Day. You can listen to the podcast of my segment here (I'm in Hour 2) and tune in to Sports 56 (AM 560 / 87.7 FM) every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hear the show.

Mini-gnome lives at the radio station now.

Memphis musicians need our help. The Memphis Symphony has fallen on tough times and the musicians have started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise the funds to finish out the rest of the season. This includes the Sunset Symphony that concludes Memphis in May every year. Consider making a donation, even if you've never been to the Symphony (and then consider going). Memphis deserves this cultural institution, and the musicians (our fellow Memphians) deserve to complete the season. Here's the link.

Sponsor a Spay, and you can get an "I Spade Memphis" t-shirt. February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. Save lives by donating $35 to the Memphis Humane Society to sponsor a spay or neuter, and you can rock this t-shirt, which seems really familiar for some reason...

ICYMI - the Travelocity Roaming Gnome was in town this past weekend for ESPN's GameDay. He had a great time while he was here, took your suggestions for things to do, and put out a lot of hilarious pictures and Tweets. I may or may not have accompanied the Gnome to Beale Street and Raiford's on Friday night. Check him out on Twitter and Instagram by following @RoamingGnome on either one.

Memphis couple Stephanie Adney and Mikki Carver are in the running for the ACLU's "My Big Gay (Il)legal Wedding" contest to win a free wedding. You can vote for them here once a day until Valentine's Day. Stephanie and Mikki intend to have their ceremony and reception locally at Memphis Botanic Garden and Molly Fontaine Lounge, so they'll be supporting local businesses if they win.

Make Memphis had their Kick-Off Event this past Saturday. About 20 Memphians had the opportunity to stand up and pitch their ideas for improving our city to the group of about 100 people, with hopes that they'll connect with others who like their idea and can make it happen. Ideas ranged from addressing urban blight to sharing Memphis' history to helping young people apply for college. The group is open to anyone. You can join the Make Memphis Facebook group here, or read all of the pitched ideas by looking through Make Memphis' Twitter account.

Finally, here are a few of your pictures from the last few days - tag 'em #ilovememphis and they might show up here!
