Memphis Is One Of The 23 Best Places To Go In 2023

Congratulations, Memphis! Condé Nast Traveler named our funky fun river city to the 23 Best Places to Go in 2023 list and the 3 Best Places to Go in the U.S. in 2023 list.

Condé Nast only has two destinations in the U.S. on their global list—Memphis and the Central California Coast. Go Memphis!

Why Memphis Is A Top Place To Visit In 2023

In their article, Condé Nast editors focus on what’s new and coming soon to Memphis, including downtown revitalization, our new hotels (eight have opened in 2022; see a list here) the $60 million renovation of Tom Lee Park, the future development of The Walk on Union, and growing healthy options in our culinary scene. They mention Raw Girls, Cameo’s alcohol-free drinks, and famous Chef Tam’s new vegetarian restaurant “Lite Life” slated to open on East Brooks Road.

If that sounds great to you, you’ll love these:

How do they make these lists anyways?

Contrary to some online chatter, I’m here to tell you that the city doesn’t pay for this kind of placement. In marketing speak this is “earned media", not a paid ad or sponsored content. Memphis Tourism representatives (my colleagues, I’m proud to say!) worked with journalists, writers, and editors at Condé Nast’s global travel outlets to pitch them on Memphis.

That team constantly hosts writers and influencers to help spread the Memphis love, and these recent awards are just a few examples of the results of that work! (See also this great Forbes article.
