Win Two Tickets to Dropkick Murphys at Minglewood Hall
The Dropkick Murphys (everyone's favorite Boston punk band), are coming to Minglewood Hall in June and I'm giving away a pair of tickets to one ILM reader.
The show is at Minglewood Hall on June 6th at 7 p.m. They've been kind enough to give me two tickets to give to one of you.
Interested? Awesome.
Leave a comment on this blog post telling me either a) why you want to go to the show, b) who you'll take with you, or c) what the most punk rock think you've ever seen is by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28th. I'll pick a winner based on your answers / my own whims.
We have a winner! Congrats to Mark Pendergrast. Thanks for playing everybody.
I want to show all the youngsters that us old hardcore punk fans can still rip it up Mosh pits aren't just for the young folks ya know.
I'd love to go to the show because on a road trip last week, I started learning all of the lyrics to "The Irish Rover," and I'd like the opportunity to sing along in person!
My wife is crazy for Dropkick Murphys and we haven’t had a date in so long we’ve forgotten what it’s like. Oh please, please, please pick us!
My amazing boyfriend lives out of town in Kansas City and I'm all the way over here in the significantly more awesome city of Memphis. He and I both love the Dropkick Murphys, so a chance to see them together in concert would be an amazing thing for us to experience! We hardly get to see eachother in person, so this would be the best date the two of us could ask for!
I want to relive the night I went to my first show in Boston. I invited a guy I liked. He laughed and said ok… he knew that I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I guess he thought it was kinda cute. Countless bruises, and a few broken noses later (around us, luckily our noses left unscathed), I was a Dropkick Murphys fan. I'd love to invite him to Memphis and share a Dropkick Round 2 Memphis-style with him.
My hubs birthday is on June 6th—this would be THE BEST birthday present EVER for him!!
I miss my punk! Haven't had any since the good old Antenna days.
PS: GO GRIZZ
I am 5 1/2 months pregnant & my unborn son can hear now and needs some early exposure (don't worry – all the books say loud music isn't dangerous). Not to mention, I'd love an awesome date night w/the hubby as they will soon be few & far between.
I'd take my older brother with me! He's a big fan of them, and music in general but doesn't really get the opportunity to go to concerts often.
I am a Memphis Transplant from the midwest and I'm STARVED for some good celtic punk rock (haven't seen a good show in years). It would be so meaningful for my wife (who's half Irish) and I to have another taste of Irish Fest in Milwaukee here in Memphis!
The last time I saw Dropkick Murphys was a snowy St. Patrick's Day, 2006. I was in high school and a friend and I skipped school, got some Schnapps and headed to Boston. Best show I've ever attended! It would be great to see them again!
I'd take my brother…he's a huge fan of The Dropkick Murphys.
I'm @ Minglewood 1884 2-nite 4 a punk show. where r the rest of u?
Most punk rock thing?…. Joey Ramone @ 616 on Marshall when no one knew how sick he was. We knew something was up but he still gave it his all. Adios Amigos! suddenly made much more sense.
A.) I'm new to Memphis and recently moved to Midtown, but I've never been to Minglewood Hall. Give me a reason, please!!
I want to go the show because not only am I a huge fan, but my husband is as well.. and
I also wasn't able to snag him Neutral Milk Hotel tickets before they sold out so maybe this will make up for it a little bit.
I want to go because of the las punk show I attended. It was Against Me at the HighTone, and I got kicked in the face. A boot collided with my glasses and sent frame in one direction and lens in the other. Hulk-strength was called upon, people were shoved, and I reunited my lens and frames. I found some tape, made a quick fix, and proceded to rock on.
As a transplant to Memphis (9 months and counting!) that is currently dating a born and raised Memphian – I feel like this show could effectively bond us together or rip us apart, but it'll be a great time regardless!
I freaked the hell out when I saw this show's announcement. Believe you me: the only atmosphere better than a punk rock show is a Celtic punk rock show.
Went to Coachella this year, Dropkick was one of the top 5 shows I was looking forward to. Unfortunately, I had a mild case of passing out due to the heat and missed their entire set. I'd like to make up for that. But, more importantly, I'd like to make it up to my friend who had to miss them as well since she was nice enough to take care of me through my ailment.
I would love to win tickets to take my fiance. He loves Dropkick Murphy's and it would be a nice surprise for him.
I want to take my 13 yr old daughter to her first show@ MingleWood Hall. She's almost as big of a fan of D.K.M. as I am, but that's soon to be seen. 2 tickets won't be enough, still gotta buy 1 for the Mrs as well, but winning 2 for Christians b-day would be awesome!!! Thanks..
The most punk rock thing I've ever seen was Pinata Protest (traditional Mexican music meets punk rock) playing a frenetic punk cover of Volver Volver. People were losing their minds with happy dancing. It was truly excellent.
The combination of traditional, accordion-fueled music — of any nationality — meeting punk rock makes me deeply happy.
I would take my husband! We've both been listening to the Dropkick Murphys since we first started dating (7 years ago). It would be an amazing date!
I would love to treat my husband to an early Father's Day. He deserves a night out enjoying one of his favorite punk bands.
My husband had been dying for them to come to Memphis because he just got promoted from student to BAGPIPER!! It's an amazing instrument and he's an amazing man and deserves the opportunity:)
I LOVE THIS BAND!!! Cool combination of Irish Celtic, punk, rock&roll! Dropkick Murphy’s love playing which transcends into sweaty, exhilarating, kick-ass fun!!! My favorite punk show I’ve attended was The Sex Pistols at the Taliesyn Ballroom(which is now a Taco Bell) in Memphis in ’77 or ’78. What stands out to this day is Johnny Rottens comment, “We’re not here for your entertainment, you’re here for ours.” The epitomy of punk!!!
Would love to treat my 19 year-old to some kick ass Irish Celtic, Punk Rock! He needs to experience this! Thanks 😉
Uuuummmm im the PUNKiebrewster of Irish punk rock. Id love to take my honey with, and I promise to wear pigtails!!!!
I'm DEFINITELY taking my boy Matt, who personifies DKM to a tee!
I've been working in Beiruit, Lebanon for the past ten months. I'm back in Memphis now for a few weeks and I would like to take my best friend Brad. He has been watching out for my family
and taking care all the things I couldn't do while I was gone. He loves Dropkick Murphy's
The Calendar is showing that the show is June 2 at 8pm. Was there a schedule change?
On to why I would love tickets to this show: I love Dropkick Murphys and have been listening to them since 2002 and my hubby would be accompanying me. <3 My husband is not actually a fan, but this coincides with our wedding anniversary (married 3 years June 2nd, wooo!) and he PROMISED that he would take me to see it. I know that it would be so worthwhile to win these tickets and it'd help us be able to go out to dinner before hand.
Thanks for the chance to win!
I will take my 13 year old. It is time for his first punk show and couldn't pick a better band to be his first to hear live.
I would love to take my husband to this show. Since having two kids and becoming a full time teacher, he has been working so hard to take care of his family and has no time to reconnect with his former "punk" self. It's been a tough year and this would be an amazing Father's Day present!
I have been a long time fan of this band. I met my friend Matt, who was from Boston, in 7th grade. He introduced me to the Dropkick Murphys and it blew me away. As a kid who was pretty much exclusively listening to pop-punk at that point, The DM was a breath of fresh air and it showed me that I should explore different types of music. Fortunately, my taste in music has broadened from just blink-182 and Sum 41, and I'd like to think The DM had a lot to do with it. This being said, my obvious choice for the person I will take would be Matt.
A. I want to see them cause they are one of the few good punk bands left! B. Probably no one since none of my friends go to shows anymore. But if I win I will hand off the extra ticket to someone else that doesn’t have one. C. Fat Mike’s ass at warped tour 02 lol
I deserve these tickets because I have been not only a fan of the band but pinpals with the drummer Matt kelley. Since before they blew up off the single from the hellcat compilation . Anyway I want to go bit can’t afford the tickets. I would take me wife. Of 9 years that I have been with since we were 12 and 13 thanks..
I would take my wife because she has been begging me to take her to this show. Unfourtunaly, we cannot afford them on my Geek Squad sallery. The most punk rock thing I have ever seen was when I was playing in a band when I was seventeen. We somehow booked a field party somewhere in the sticks in Middle Tennessee. It was full of rednecks and bikers. Some of these bikers were Nazis, they had Nazi pride patches all over their jackets and swastika tattoos all over their heads. Our time comes to play and we open with Nazi Punks Fuck Off by the Dead Kennedys. Needless to say, the bottles start flying. We take the abuse and power through the song and you can see that the bikers are getting more than upset. Our friend had already backed our van to the stage and started loading up while we were still playing. We managed to get out of there unharmed and being chased by a gang of bikers all the way out of the field.
