Love Shack: A Little Place Where We Can Get Some Juices (Closed)
(ed. note: I'm so sorry about the bad "Love Shack" pun in the title. I had to. By way of appology, have this.)
It's likely that Memphis will always be known more for barbecue than tofu, but I'm happy to see that the city has become more vegan and vegetarian friendly in the past few years. Restaurants have added more (and better) veggie options, there's an all-vegan restaurant and with the opening of Love Shack last month, we've now got two juice bars.
To date, Love Shack is Memphis' only vegan restaurant with drive-thru.
And it's good that it has a drive-thru, because the inside is tiny. There aren't any tables, but there are a handful of stools at the bar and plenty of seating outside on the shack's porch.
I had a hard time deciding what to drink, so I went with the first thing on the menu: an 8 oz. cup of Mon Dieu, a bright green juice made from apples, cucumbers, kale, celery, lemon and ginger. The pricing is similar to Cosmic Coconut, with an 8 oz. juice costing about $4.
Love Shack also has smoothies, coffee (both by the cup and by the bag), lattes and teas. They're planning to offer vegan snacks, but there didn't seem to be any on the menu when I stopped by yesterday.
The best thing about the Shack, though, is its proximity to the Greenline. It's only about two blocks from the trailhead at Walnut Grove and Tillman.
Love Shack is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
