Inside the Sexy New Poplar Plaza Kroger
Inside the Sexy New Poplar Plaza Kroger
The brand new Kroger at Poplar and Highland is so cool that it's inspired a strange sort of grocery tourism, where people from other neighborhoods are ditching their normal, boring Kroger to shop at the sexy new store.
Kroger has taken the best parts of other Memphis-area Krogers (better prepared foods, bulk foods, build-your-own cupcake bars, etc.) and combined them into one super fancy Kroger.
The produce section is massive, and has a ton of organic options.
There's a huge emphasis on prepared foods, from sushi to sandwiches, hot food and a build-your-own sandwich counter. Also, they've got a DIY cupcake counter.
They've also got maple bacon cupcakes.
The gluten-free aisle is one of the largest in Memphis.
And the international aisle is stocked with treats from all over the world, including a ton of items from Britain and Germany.
If you don't want to wait in line at the deli counter, you can place your deli via computer and come back and pick it up when it's ready.
The baby and pet sections are huge, and the pet section has bulk dog chews (and a kiosk where you can check out photos of locals with their adorable pups).
Parking has been a bit of an issue, but once the old Kroger building is razed later this spring, there will be plenty of room.
Just like it's predecessor, the new Poplar and Highland grocery is open 24 hours, with the deli, bakery and hot food sections closing at 9 p.m.

It looked pretty good. They've got a build-your-own six pack section that's pretty solid.
