Eat This: The Most Sophisticated Hot Dog in Memphis

The Hog and Hominy menu can be a little confusing. Everything on it sounds like it would taste amazing, but the dishes are presented as lists of ingredients without any mention of presentation.

For example, the duck sausage says this: "Duck Sausage: brussels sprouts slaw, cranberry mustard" ($8). Sounds good, right?

That's how I wound up ordering a super fancy hot dog on date night.

I guess I thought it would be served charcuterie style, but when it came out, it was a plump duck sausage, nestled in a thin, buttery bun, topped with fresh, vinegary slaw in a little paper takeout tray.

It was amazing. (And, incidentally, much less awkward to eat than I thought it would be.)

When you order the duck sausage, I recommend pairing it with the peppery collard greens or polenta, which the menu very accurately describes as "creamy goodness".
