5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 2/15 – 2/17
Happy Friday! Here are five super fun things to do in Memphis this weekend:
You know what's awesome? Monster trucks. This weekend, Monster Jam is returning to FedExForum for a night of sweet jumps, big wheels and tiny cars, crushed like so many discarded cans of soda. The event is all ages, and for an extra $5 or $10 (depending on your age), you can get up close to the trucks at the pre-show pit party.
It's funny, it's shocking, it might make you cry: it's the annual Memphis production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues". The production, which features heartfelt monologues about the female experience, will benefit Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis.
Guitarist Jason Freeman (of the Bluff City Backsliders) is releasing his first solo record, "Hex and Hell" at the Poplar Lounge on Friday, Feb. 15. The show isn't just Jason with a guitar – there will be burlesque dancers, video previews and prizes. If you haven't heard them yet, Jason's songs are bluesy, gritty and a lot rock'n'roll. Watch his video for "(Do the) Rump" before you go to the show.
Bring your family to the Dixon on Saturday to check out their fantastic new exhibit of Memphis art from the past 10 years. During family day, the museum will have activities, games, live performances and art demonstrations from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Celebrate Black History Month with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and singers from the community in Soulsville on Sunday, Feb. 17. There's a paid version of the show at the Cannon Center on Feb. 16, but you can catch it for free on Sunday.
If none of these events butter your biscuit, there are tons more on the blog's calendar . Have a great weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday.
