Podcasting is the freshest form of entertainment available. After decades of topical fluff and shallow celebrity gossip overload, audiences now have a new medium that offers the depth and intimacy that has been that has been so desperately lacking.

Free from the confines of the FCC, or any censorship at all,
podcasts are blowing the doors off of canned, only-time-for-the-talking-points-style interviews and giving listeners what they really want, something real and for free.

In Memphis, there are a few brave local podcasters that are bored with our city’s incessant nostalgia and have taken it upon themselves to change it.

Here is a shortlist of the best local podcasts I could find.
All of these folks do this in their spare time with little-to-no hope of reward. Some of the descriptions below are from the podcasters themselves. Please take the time to check out these shows and offer your support to these local pioneers of podcasting.

Nothing to See Here is my own podcast that focuses on musicians and artists of all trades. Each episode has original music made by the guest and/or myself. I have been lucky enough to sit down with the likes of SNL’s Chris Parnell, filmmaker Craig Brewer, and The Minutemen/Iggy & The Stooges’ world renowned bass virtuoso Mike Watt, among others. Future episodes will branch out beyond the arts with a transgendered guest, a psychic medium that claims to speak directly to Jesus Christ, and an expert in psychedelic drugs.

Twin Face Kline is a surreal trip through the minds of local comedians (and twin brothers) Michael and Stephen Kline. Each episode features layers of comedy and music, mixed inside a loving contrast between the strangeness of dreams, the magic of childhood, and
the beauty of melody.

Sudio is a podcast about Memphis and music hosted by Gil Worth with co-host Luke Hall. They are not concerned with ins and outs of the artistic process. They don't care about what you've done, but would rather explore the depths of your moral compass and play games. The show is very well produced and knows how to keep things moving
resulting in one of the best podcasts in town.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Local comedian Josh McLane and Shut Up & Listen Podcast Network creator Jared B. Callen love you and kind of hate you.

The Brandon Sams Untitled Comedy Podcast is an open dialog about local art and lifestyle from the people who live it.

People I Know is an irregular podcast hosted and produced by writer Ed Arnold that explores the motivations, drive and background of creative and interesting people.

Pretty Broken is hosted by Kevin Lipe and Greg Turner. It is a rambling, rootsy, and utterly damaged discussion about what it means to be of the south and hold damage and guilt in the very center of your being. It's also about music and cars and stuff. (description taken from their own bio).

MemNash Radio is a podcast that supports indie musicians, songwriters, actors, filmmakers, and comedians in Memphis, Nashville, and the surrounding areas. They support the small guy on his or her way to the big leagues.

The Secret Stall Society is a brand new show hosted by Daniel Harper and Andrew Parks. Listen in as they hash out the most important topics of our time from hanging out with bears to riding the school bus. Enjoy their conversations, skits, spoofs and skits while they
make you smarter.
