365 Things to Do in Memphis #278: Ride the Ferris Wheel at Zoo Lights
This year, see Zoo Lights from the top of a brightly lit 90-foot Ferris Wheel. It's assignment #278 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis.
Ferris wheels aren't normally my thing – I'm scared of heights – but my 3 year-old friend Landon really wanted to ride, and I wasn't about to be shown up by a little kid.
Despite said fear of heights, I'm glad I took the ride. The Zoo's Ferris wheel has gondola-like cars (instead of the seats where your feet dangle freely), so the ride was super smooth.
The line wasn't crazy long (around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday), and we made about five leisurely trips around the wheel before our turn ended. Even if you decide not to ride, the LED light-covered wheel is still cool to watch.
The Zoo's Ferris wheel is open from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. every day, and during Zoo Lights (select nights through Dec. 30) from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.
