365 Things to Do in Memphis #275: India Fest
This weekend, head to the Agricenter for a day-long celebration of Memphis' Indian community and the diversity and culture of India. Assignment #275 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to check out India Fest.
There's so much going on at India Fest that it could easily be a weekend-long festival. There's a bazaar where you can shop for traditional Indian clothing, jewelry and goods. There are fashion shows, live music and chances to watch (and participate in) traditional Indian dances. There's an area where kids can learn about Indian history and culture.
There's also food. Tons and tons of food.
Last year, a whole room in the Agricenter was turned into a giant Indian food court with cooking teams selling all kinds of things: curry, naan, desserts, sandwiches. Many of the offerings are vegeterian and vegan friendly and the majority of them are inexpensive (individual items last year were mostly priced between $1 and $6).
India Fest is on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Agricenter.

I have been to India Fest several times in recent years and it is a great experience. If you are not Indian, it is a great way to get to know this fasinating culture. The food is wonderful (and cheap as Kerry said) so it is a great way to try new foods. Everyone is so friendly, you are sure to have a good time.
