In the past decade, the Memphis Zoo has done a lot of necessary renovating, updating and redesigning. And though many of the animal habitats have changed, there's one thing at the Zoo that remains the same. Assignment #271 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to ride one of the vintage rides at the Zoo.
I'm not talking about the new rides like the train through Once Upon a Farm or the China Carousel. I mean the vintage rides that were brought to the Zoo in the 1950s. My mom used to take my brother and I to ride the boats and merry-go-round in the days before we exceeded the strict height and weight limits. They're not fancy and there are no special effects – just good, wholesome (and mostly circular) fun.
The vintage rides are located in a special area towards the western edge of the zoo (near Once Upon a Farm) and cost $1 per ride. All of the Zoo's rides are open March through October.
