365 Things to Do in Memphis #262: Mid-South Pyrate Faire

Ahoy, mateys! Assignment #262 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to plunder some booty (or engage in similarly swashbuckling behavior) at the third annual Mid-South Pyrate Faire.

Mid-South Pyrate Faire 2012, Memphis, Tenn.

This year, the Pyrate Faire has expanded from a one-day event into a full festival. It starts Friday night with the Pyrate's Ball, a costumes-encouraged dance with live music from Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers.

On Saturday and Sunday, the festival takes over Mud Island River Park. There will be live music and dance performances, scallywag school (where you can hone your swashbuckling skills), a pirate ship, vendors, food, drinks and costumes.

The festival is family friendly, but the Friday night ball is not.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
