365 Things to Do in Memphis #260: Best Memphis Burger Fest
Updated October 2017
Memphis food is more than barbecue. If our local festival scene is a good barometer, we’re also really good at crawfish, hot wings, soup, breakfast, grilled cheese, and burgers. Assignment #260 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to check out Best Memphis Burger Fest.
Seth Agranov, author of the Best Memphis Burger blog, and his business partner Tim James are the festival’s founders, and they put it on with the help of a great team and local sponsors.
This festival is held in early October each year, and dozens of teams compete for burger glory (including some pretty sweet trophies). A team of judges will preside over Best Bloody Mary, Best Veggie Burger, Best Specialty Burger, and Best Memphis Burger competitions.
In 2017, the festival was on October 7 at Tiger Lane. First place winners are listed below. Full list of winners here and scores are here.
Best Bloody Mary: 5 O’Clock Somewhere
Best Veggie Burger: Slider Inn
Classic Cheeseburger: Eat My Meat
Specialty Burger: Flying Saucer
2017 Grand Champion: Who’s Your Patty
The proceeds go towards Memphis Paws, which benefits animal rescue groups in the area.
Usually, tickets are $10. Your ticket includes parking, entry, live music, eating competitions, and access to local vendors.
But can I eat the burgers? Some teams create extra samples for attendees to try – but definitely drop a few bucks in the teams’ donation jars if you can. The proceeds go towards Memphis Paws.
2018 date TBA
