Pack your picnic basket and score a ticket – assignment #241 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to see a concert at the Memphis Botanic Garden.
Every summer, hundreds of people flock to the giant lawn in the middle of the Memphis Botanic Garden for the annual Live at the Garden concert series. The shows are a giant garden party combined with a picnic (you're allowed to bring in your own food and booze) and a big concert.
The bands are usually crowd-pleasing favorites like Duran Duran, the B-52s and Al Green, and the crowd is decidedly adult. There are a handful of reserved tables in front of the stage, but the lawn (where tickets are less expensive) turns into mass picnic / dance party. Some people go all out with their dress and food spreads, others keep it super casual with lawn chairs, blankets and take-out.
Have a look at the pictures from Duran Duran's show earlier this month.
Tickets are still available for the two remaining shows in this year's season: Lynyrd Skynyrd on August 31 and Bonnie Raitt on October 5.
