365 Things to Do in Memphis #235: Eat Guacamole at Las Delicias

Even if you think you don’t like guacamole, you’ll want to give assignment #235 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis a try: order the fresh guacamole at Las Delicias.

Guacamole, Las Delicias, Memphis, Tenn.

Las Delicias’ guacamole might be the lord god king of all avocado-based dips. This is not some indistinguishable, pureed green mess. It’s a bowl full of avocado chunks, tomatoes, jalepenos, onions, cilantro and lime juice that you can eat on their house-made tortilla chips as-is (the right way to do it) or mash it yourself with the spoon that comes with it.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.

I wish they served Las Delicias guacamole at Camino de Michoacana! Then it'd be the perfect Mexican joint.

For anyone wanting to try Las Delicias' guacamole without having to go it's restaurant in East Memphis, you might be in luck. Last year, I got some of its guacamole at the Southern Folklore Music Festival from its tent on Main St. It's possible that the restaurant is doing it again this weekend at the Fest.
