365 Things to Do in Memphis #204: Commune with Nature at Lichterman
There's a 65-acre arboretum hidden in the middle of East Memphis. It's called Lichterman Nature Center, and assignment #204 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to take a break from the city and take a walk on its trails.
It’s amazingly easy to forget that you’re in the middle of the city when you walk the trails at Lichterman. They're paved trails are peaceful and shady, and the only reminder that the city surrounds you is the occasional glimpse of office buildings peeking over the trees.
The center is also home to the Backyard Wildlife Center, an educational building that houses live animals and hands-on exhibits. When you’re in the visitor’s center, be sure to check out the huge display of the various taxidermied critters that call the Mid-South home.
