It would have been amazing to see Otis Redding live at the Monterey or the Who play in Texas in 1975. Alas, because time travel hasn't come as far as I had hoped it would by 2012, Indie Memphis' Free Concert Film Series at the Levitt Shell will have to do.

Indie Memphis Free Concert Film Festival 2012

I'm glad Indie Memphis has decided to make the Free Concert Film Series (which started last year) into an annual thing. It's nice to have something musical happening at the Shell during the months between the Spring and Fall live concert series.

Here's what's playing this year:

Saturday, July 28
Otis Redding: SHAKE! OTIS AT MONTEREY
Jimi Hendrix: JIMI PLAYS MONTEREY

Hosted by Orion Federal Credit Union

Saturday, August 4
Elvis Presley: ELVIS ON TOUR
Hosted by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.

Saturday, August 11
The Who: THE WHO LIVE IN TEXAS 1975
Presented by the Shelley Archives

Saturday, August 18
Led Zeppelin: LED ZEPPELIN IN CONCERT: RARE FILMS 1968-1980

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
