5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 6/22 – 6/24
Happy Friday, Memphis! Here's this weekend's short list of five events you won't want to miss:
This weekend's Plant-Based Food Festival is all about healthy, natural living. The two-day event will have a vegtarian and vegan food court, cooking demonstrations, speakers, vendors, arts and crafts and a vegetarian cook-off. If you're going, be sure to bring some kind of meat-free canned good with you – the festival organizers are collecting food for the Feed the People Program of Memphis.
2. O, Brother, Where Art Thou, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 7 p.m., $7
This year has to be one of the best years ever for the Orpheum Summer Movie Series. The lineup has been incredible, and tonight's offering, "O, Brother, Where Art Thou" is no exception. The modern classic stars George Clooney in a prison-escapee road trip treasure hunt buddy movie based on Homer's "Odyssey". Memphis bluegrass band Blue Day will play before the show.
3. LuvMud Island, Greenbelt Park, Saturday, 9 a.m., free to watch, $25 – $200 to compete
You could run a regular, boring 5K for charity, or you could run LuvMud. Habitat for Hope's semi-annual race is coming to downtown Memphis this weekend, and they're bringing all of the obstacles, costumes and mud pits with them. There are still spaces left if you'd like to run, but watching is just as much fun (especially after the costumes get muddy).
4. Soul Classics 103.5 Ultimate Family Reunion, Levitt Shell, Saturday, 3 p.m., free
Memphis' classic soul radio station is throwing a family reunion that's guaranteed to be more fun than your own at the Levitt Shell on Saturday afternoon. How's it going to be more fun, you ask? Kurtis Blow is playing. Also, they'll have more live music (from Sugar T and Kia Johnson), soul food vendors and prizes.
5. Electrocity Pirate Party, Senses, Saturday, 10 p.m., $7
It's dance party time, y'all – Electrocity is holding their monthly electronic dance night at Senses on Saturday. They'll have their usual crew of DJs, $1 PBRs, "some kind of cheap rum concoction", and plenty of room to dance. The theme is pirates, so get an eye patch and go all out.
If none of these events are your thing, there are plenty more on the blog's calendar. There's also a bonus sixth thing to do on the I Love Memphis tumblr. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast. Come back and tell me about it on Monday.

I attended LuvMud, as an observer (though I did get a little mud on me). Fun event!
