From Etsy: Vintage Memphis Photos With a Little Something Extra

Every so often, I skim through Etsy for Memphis-related items. Usually, I find a lot of map art, photography, Elvis tributes and tons of Tigers-themed everything (seriously -  I had no idea there was a market for Tiger blue garter belts).

Today, though, I came across these:

Memphis monster by Matthew Buchholz on Etsy

They're vintage photos of Memphis that have been edited to include mythical beasts, designed by Matthew Buchholz.

"This picture captures all the hustle and bustle of downtown Memphis in 1906. The new streetcar line sits in the middle of the street while restaurants & hotels line the avenue. In the distance, the Memphis Monster (or Tennessee Tortoise, depending on the locality) offers a wave as he crosses the street.”

If giant turtles stomping around downtown aren't your thing, he's also got one of the Mississippi River at Memphis, complete with steam ships, the skyline and giant tentacles.

To see all of Matthew's work, check out his Etsy store, Alternate Histories.

The touch of adding "Hotel Gamera" is amusing.

Matthew, Not sure how Esty or your sales work.  Love your images of memphis, would like to add these slides to a powerpoint presentation I do around the Harahan Bridge Project.  We are working with the city and the railroad to re-open roadbeds on an existing railroad bridge accross the mississippi river. Your images would add some fun to my presentaion.   Is this possible??  Let me know Greg Maxted, P.E.
