Better Know a Memphian: Allen K. Turner
Meet Allen K. Turner, a Memphian (ok, North Mississippian, but close enough) serving with the Mississippi Army National Guard. Here, he answers my questions about what he's working on, the dish he's craving most and what he misses about Memphis:
Name: Allen K. Turner
Occupation: Soldier - Mississippi Army National Guard currently serving in Afghanistan.
Hometown: Memphis, Tenn.
Neighborhood: North Mississippi.
I’m working on: a bachelors degree in Intelligence Studies.
What do you miss about Memphis the most? My family, friends, Drake and Zeke in the Morning, all of my favorite restaurants,, museums, the U of M (go Tigers!). I miss everything about Memphis.
I’m listening to: the rocket attack alarms.
If I could have a dish from any Memphis restaurant right now, it would be: 15 layer
lasagna from Spaghetti Warehouse.
In five years, I want to: be finished with my Masters Degree.
I’m excited about: going home to Memphis in September.
How do you describe Memphis to someone who doesn’t live there / has never been there: a city with diverse culture centered on music and civil rights; a place with great food, fun events,
rich history. It's place to find your soul.
The coolest person I’ve met in the past year is: Jeff Cox from St. Blues Guitars.
I love Memphis because: It is my home. It's where I was born, it is where my wife, Cindy
is, and it is where I will spend the rest of my life. I couldn't live anywhere else.
