Random Values Assessment of the Week
There are a lot of things I value - my friends, my family, my derby teammates, my work, good music and the few hours of sleep I manage to squeeze in between all of those things.
But when I tried to think of something to submit for the American Values Project, it took me a few minutes to settle one that rolled all of those things into one. If I wasn't in Memphis, my life would be fundamentally different (and dare I say, not as good).
The American Values Project is a study of what we as a people care about most. It's being run by Rhodes College philosophy professor Dr. Leigh Johnson. She and her team are trying to collect as many diverse submissions as they possibly can. If they have enough submissions, they'll consider holding a gallery exhibition later this spring.
I scrolled through their photo album and was surprised by some of the values. Tons of people value their families and love and friendships, but others value privacy, nudity, authenticity and humor.
