The South by Southwest music, film and interactive festival is drawing some of the coolest people from around the world to Austin, Texas this week, Memphians included. Here's a look at the hometown bands playing the festival this week:

If you're only going to make one Memphis music event at the festival, make it the screening of the Big Star documentary "Nothing Can Hurt Me Now" at the Paramount on Thursday at 7 p.m. After the film, Jody Stephens (the last living member of the band) and friends will play the entirety of "Third". If you want in, get there early - given Big Star's legendary status, this one is likely to be a sell out.

Tiger High, rapper Cities Aviv, Cloudland Canyon and the alt-country boys from Lucero are all working hard this week. Each one is playing five shows between today and the 19th. If you make it to a Lucero show, chances are high that you'll hear some of the songs from their new record, "Women and Work".

The annual Goner Records show at Beerland on Friday is going to be an evening of garage rock mayhem featuring local bands Manatees, Toxie and Ex Cult (formerly Sex Cult) sharing the stage with Mykel Cronin and White Fence. Take a listen to their preview mix tape here.

Jack Oblivian has a show on Saturday, March 17 at 11:30 p.m. Spiderhouse (2908 Fruth St.). There's also talk of a Jack O. Sunday day show, but it hasn't been confirmed.
