Ladies and Gentlemen, My Pick for the Best Food at Oscar Night America

Ladies and Gentlemen, My Pick for the Best Food at Oscar Night America

On Sunday night, hundreds of men in suits and women in gowns gathered to sip cocktails, mingle and watch Academy Awards. Only, they weren't in Hollywood. They were in Memphis at the Ronald McDonald House Oscar Night America benefit at Minglewood Hall.

There was also food - tons of it, all from local restaurants. Though the Memphis attendees couldn't vote for their favorite movies, they could vote for their favorite food. The selection was huge and varied - tiramisu, soba noodles, soups, grilled cheese, sticky rice, Jack Daniels milkshakes, and so on.

I was invited to give a special food award - the Kerry's Choice Award. The qualifications were simple: I tried a little bit of everything, then picked the food item that succeeded in blowing my mind. And that item, ladies and gentlemen, was the Nutty Caramel Apple crepe from Crepe Maker.

This thing was intense. It was a crispy crepe loaded with roasted apples, topped with caramel and sprinked with cinnamon, powdered sugar and walnuts. It had that part-hot, part-cold thing going on (warm crepe, cold apples) that I love. It also came in a snow-cone style cup, which made walking and eating easy.

Congratulations, Crepe Maker - you blew my mind.
