365 Things to Do in Memphis, #56: See the Hickory Hill Buddha

Assignment #56 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to drive past one of our quirkiest local landmarks.

Hickory Hill Buddha, Memphis, Tenn.

The giant concrete Buddha isn't a piece of public art - it rises at least 10 feet tall out of the corner of a front yard. It's a little tough to take a picture of (it faces the house), but you can see that he's grinning.

If you'd like to see him, take Mendenhall south about a mile and a half past the southern portion of I-240.

I love driving by this with people who have never seen it before. Some stop mid-sentence!
