Assignment #41 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to see a Richard James show. Since he plays just about every weekend, this shouldn't be too difficult.

You can find him playing back up sometimes (like in this picture from the Cove), but he's best when he plays with his band, the Special Riders. Their mix of garage rock originals and the occasional crowd-pleasing cover combined with Richard's antics make them one of the best bar bands in Memphis.

Pro tip: Stay late. The shows get better the later they go, especially once Richard starts scaling the furniture and dancing with the girls in the front row.
