365 Things to Do in Memphis #19: Learn to Knit at Stash
Assignment #19 on the 365 Things to Do list involves two needles and a ball of yarn – you're going to learn to knit at Stash.
Stash is a small, locally-owned yarn store located in an old Cooper-Young house. It's a friendly, bright place with a big room of shelves loaded with balls of cotton, wool and linnen yarn. They also carry needles, buttons, ribbon and loads of knitting books and patterns.
There are perfectly knit example scarves, hats and sweaters draped over the furniture and big tables where knitters congregate on and off all day. It's all very cozy, which has the effect of making you want to make something – anything – out of their yarn.
And, lucky for you, they teach lessons in everything from basic knitting stitches to complicated lace and colorwork. If you're a fast learner, you can always ask the super friendly staff for a quickie tutorial. Stash also hosts a weekly sit-and-knit on Thursday nights where you can hang out, work on a project and ask questions about your projects.
