24 Hours of Elvis: 9:10 a.m., The Elvis Statue

(In honor of Elvis Week 2011, I’m having an Elvis-themed Monday. All day, immersed in the world of Elvis – checking out his favorite places, eating where he ate, and doing some of the things he did in an attempt to find out why after so many years, Elvis is still so fascinating for so many people.)

Elvis Statue on Beale St.

After breakfast, I paid a visit to the Elvis statue on Beale St. The street was almost empty at 9 a.m., even during Elvis week. (It was also not barricaded, meaning I could have driven down Beale. I didn't - it would have been too weird.)

I love all of the detail in the statue - it could have been so simple, but the sculptor took the time to trick out the guitar and get the sneer just right.
