Meals in Motion Brings East Memphis Restaurants to You

Meals in Motion Brings East Memphis Restaurants to You

If, like me, you sit around wishing that Las Delicias would bring the tacos to you or that Ryu's spicy crab soup could magically show up at your house, then Meals in Motion could change your life.

Here's how it works: you look over the local restaurant offerings on the Meals in Motion website, decide what you want and call them. They go to the restaurant, pick up your order and bring it to your house. It's fast, it's not crazy expensive, and it's genius.

Meals in Motion Menu

Abby May started the delivery company with her boyfriend in March of 2009 after moving to Memphis from South Carolina. She had worked for a similar company there and thought the concept would work well with locally-owned restaurants in Memphis.

Currently, Meals in Motion delivers everything from sushi to tacos from 12 East Memphis restaurants, though Abby says that she makes the most trips to Patrick's and Ciao Bella. On a typical day, Abby and her boyfriend deliver 15 - 18 meals.

Red Curry from Bangkok Alley via Meals in Motion

I live outside of Meals in Motion's delivery area, but Abby kindly agreed to deliver to a friend's house a block west of Highland (just outside of their western border). We placed our order - two curries and crab rangoon from Bangkok alley - around 6:30 p.m. Abby showed up, delivery bags in a thermal cooler, around 7 p.m. - a 15 minute shorter wait than she had estimated (and with plastic forks) The portions were huge and the food was still hot.

Meals in Motion is open Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the company only delivers dinner (5 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Sunday). The delivery area is limited, but Abby hopes to open more branches serving different neighborhoods in the future.

Order some dinner (and don't forget to tip your driver):

There's a place like this is my current city (Chattanooga, TN). I'm happy to see my hometown has gotten a company like this--even if it is in a limited area. Good businesses spawn other good businesses. Who knows? In time, the entire city might be available for delivery. Thanks for this blog. Even though I'm no longer there, I'm happy to see Memphis in positive lights. :-)

I absolutely love Meals in Motion! This article perfectly describes their service. The idea is novel, and the owners are so sweet!

they need to 1) edit the website for errors and 2) use a mobile payment service like Square to take credit cards. good idea at the right price and with the right restaurants.

I love Meals in Motion! We order from Abby on the regular (seriously like once a week). She’s fast, friendly and the food is always hot and reasonably priced. I’d love to see Huey’s, Half Shell and a hot wing joint added to the menu. Other than that, sheer perfection!

Glad to see something like this back in Memphis. There was a similar service back in the 90s. I can't remember the name, but it did fairly well for a few years.
