So, You Want to Design an I Love Memphis Mural? Here’s How.

By now, you may have seen the giant, bright red I Love Memphis mural in Cooper Young.

It’s the first of 10 “I Love Memphis” themed murals that are being painted all over town through a partnership between my office (the Memphis CVB), the City of Memphis and the Urban Arts Commission.

Seven of the murals are being designed and painted by artists in the Urban Arts Commission murals program. The other three are up to you. Seriously.

Starting today, we’re accepting public design submissions for the three of the murals. Here’s how it works:

1. To be considered, your design must be submitted to ilovememphismural@gmail.com by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 27th. There’s only one guideline: the design must, in some way, say “I Love Memphis”. When you submit your design, make sure to include your name, an email address or phone number where we can reach you.

2. Anyone can enter (as long as they’re not one of the seven muralists already in the program). You don’t have to be an artist or have any mural experience to submit a design. The winners will be paired with an artist to create the final work.

3. Once all of the submissions are in, our team of experts (aka, me, the UAC and a representative from the city) will choose the finalists. Once finalists are chosen, the winner(s) will be determined by a public vote that will be held on this blog.
