Get Handmade Treats from Afters Boutique

I'm not sure what it is, but food - including cake - tastes better on sticks.

Cake balls from Afters Boutique

Cake is pretty great on it's own, but these cake balls from Afters Boutique take it to a new level. Each stick has two wads of soft chocolate cake coated in a thick ganache-like icing. They're little chunks of baked heaven, gooey and soft and just sweet enough.

Dana Dillard started Afters Boutique two years ago after she realized she was making candy every weekend. Sge started with candy apples and moved on to cheesecakes, chocolates and truffles (like the amazingly tasty mint bliss truffle). Everything she sells is handmade in a downtown live/work space that she shares with her boyfriend.

Much of Afters Boutique's business is custom orders. Dana can shape candy into just about anything, as evidenced by the  chocolate guns, silver-painted peanut butter badges and donut-shaped cookies she created for a police appreciation party.

At the moment, Afters Boutique doesn't have a storefront of its own (they're working on it), but you can pick up the goods at Trolley Stop Market in midtown and City Market downtown.

If you'd like to score some sweets, you can order from Afters Boutique online (or, you could talk to them on Twitter).

this country is great because we have people like dana, who are not afraid to try and reach for the brass ring. dana has catered a few events on which i have worked. she isn't a one trick pony, she does cupcakes, cookies, pretzels, king cakes, she even made chocolate handcuffs and badges for an event promoting the downtown police precinct. her goods are always tasty and always a big hit. my sweet tooth says "more please!"

Hey, Jason, does the book make the cake for you? Didn't think so. #hatersgonnahate

I have many fabulous dishes that people ask for all the time. The fact that I got the recipes from cook books doesn't make them any less delicious or appealing. That first comment was just silly.
