Meet Memphian #40: Musician Caleb Sigler

Caleb is a local musician who released a six-song EP called "Straight on Till Morning" at the end of January. The record, which was made with lots of volunteer help, is for a good cause: all of the money raised from its sales goes to Children's Hope Chest, which helps orphaned children in Swaziland. The sale of one record provides food, medicine and clothing to one child for a month.
He was kind enough to answer a few questions about his record, Memphis and Kelly Ripa:
Occupation: Musician, Graphic Designer, Grocery Cashier, Artist in Residency at Christ City Church
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Neighborhood: Vollentine Evergreen area in Midtown
My favorite thing about the Memphis music scene is: the laid back atmosphere. People love what you're doing no matter what you're doing.
The best part of my day is: hanging out with my wife Casey and dog Paisley.
My new record is: called Straight on 'til Morning and it's out now on iTunes, Amazon mp3, and eMusic. I was able to raise support for generous givers so that I am able to give ALL of my proceeds towards helping orphans in Swaziland affected by HIV and poverty through an organization called Children's Hope Chest.
It’s Friday night. I’m probably: out with friends. We have an amazing community of people who live near us and are also passionate about this city and it's people.
My favorite thing about my neighborhood is: the diversity and culture. Also I love Cafe Eclectic, and I am walking distance from fresh bread. Love it.
My favorite place to go on a date is: Local for burgers, Sweet Grass for shrimp and grits, Molly Fontaine's for everything else.
I’m proud of: this project. We had some wonderful Memphis musicians on the album including James Joseph, Mark Trussell, Ryan Peel, Evan Nicholson and others. It was produced in Memphis, mixed in Memphis, and mastered in Memphis…It's exciting to see this town doing something for a greater cause even in small ways like this.
My hidden talent is: I am working on my hammered dulcimer skills as we speak.
The coolest person I’ve met in the last year is: I met Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos in New Orleans while eating a sandwich…my mother in law was pretty thrilled.
I love Memphis because: of the people. I truly believe that there is a new movement towards hope in this town again, and that excites me. I see change and renewed passion from Downtown to Midtown to Cordova. I believe in this town, there are no safe places or scary places here…just Memphis through and through.
You can get a copy of "Straight on Till Morning" on Amazon, iTunes or at Caleb's CD release party at Swanky's Taco on Feb. 20th.
