Carrie is a journalism professor at the University of Memphis and a generally awesome new-media loving person.
Also, shout outs to her Journalism 7200 class - I had the pleasure of speaking to them last night, and they were awesome. I woke up this morning to find that they had live-tweeted my entire talk (apparently, when reduced to 140 characters, anything you say about me sounds like a Chuck Norris fact).
In other news:
- Alas, antique hunters, BoJo's Antique Mall is closing on May 31. Apparently, the store is down to 40 vendors (from a peak of 150), and the owner felt like it was time to sell the building. In it's place, Summer Ave. is getting another dollar store. I'm going to miss it - the three-story maze of random junk is/was one of my favorite places in Memphis to explore.
- Happy National Margarita Day! It seems a little bit random for a Tuesday in Feburary, but a celebration is a celebration. Stop by El Porton, Happy Mexican or Cafe Ole after work, or mix your own with food writer Jennifer Biggs' favorite recipe.
- If you're visiting the Memphis Zoo during all of this perfect weather, there are a few temporary closures you need to know about: the Cat House Cafe and Once Upon a Farm Expo Building are being renovated, and the Sea Lion exhibit and Animals of the Night house are closed for repairs. Everything will be back up and running in a few weeks.
- There's going to be a benefit for longtime bartender Karen Brownlee at Earnestine & Hazel's at 6 p.m. tomorrow night. Karen just had heart surgery, and her co-workers have put together this benefit to help her make up what she's losing in tips while she's recovering. Paul has more info.
