Shop Like a Pin-Up Girl at Crazy Beautiful

If Dita Von Teese lived in Memphis, she would shop at Crazy Beautiful.

Inside Crazy Beautiful, Memphis, Tenn.

The shop's is owned by a perfectly pin-curled former Memphis Belle's burlesque dancer named Wendi Gammill and her business partner Eryka Smith. They've stocked the store with vintage-inspired dresses, impossibly high heels and plenty of trendy, rock'n'roll threads and accessories. Crazy Beautiful carries lines exclusive from independent and hard-to-find designers, which means that you won't find clothing like it anywhere else in town.

There's a reason the shop has dominated the "Best Women's Boutique" category in the Flyer's Best of Memphis poll for the past three years. Crazy Beautiful is the perfect place to shop for a party dress - they've got tons, and there's a ton of variety.

Girls with classic rockabilly style will love the huge selection of vintage reproduction dresses (like this one), skirts and shoes. Trendier ladies will love the designer jeans, unique blouses and edgy accessories that line the hot-pink and damask walls.  I love that they carry Trashy Diva's super cute print dresses and coats. Their retro cuts and classic lines make them universally flattering.

Crazy Beautiful is located just west of the University of Memphis, across the street from Brother Juniper's and Tiger Books. The staff is friendly and more than excited to make suggestions. Also, they're scarily good at figuring out what size you are by taking a quick look at you.

Not pointed out in this review, but if you aren't a size 8 or smaller, Crazy Beautiful is not for you. I used to be a size 9/10. I found most of the lines they carry run a bit small; the largest size I was able to find in the store was an 11/12. The sales lady, Wendy, who now know is the owner, when asked if the pants were likey to shrink in the wash, assured me that they would actually "loosen up". They shrank. Fifty bucks wasted. (I have lost a ton of weight thanks to an illness since that purchase and while I could easily slide into their size five offerings, I've not been back. At 9/10 I was not plus size, but you'd sure think so by the sizes offered at Crazy Beautiful, which is fine, carry what you like.....but don't make un informed statements about your product to just to make a sale.)

Knowing Wendi personally I don't think she would say something would work for a customer if she didn't truly think it would. One disadvantage CB is at as far as sizes is that many of the independent designers they carry don't produce as many sizes as a mass produced company. But I know they are constantly working to find products for women of all shapes.
