A few days ago, Matthew brought me this matchbook:
But, it wasn't really a matchbook. It was a tiny poetry anthology from Small Fires Press, a local publisher of chapbooks, matchbooks and broadsides.
The matchbook is filled with short poems, some of which are so brief that they fit on a single page. There's also a collection of scratch'n'sniff pages with colorful dots that smell like obligation, earnestness and shame. Five hundred of these tiny, letterpress books were made by hand.
You can get your own matchbook through Small Fires Press or at Burke's Books in Cooper-Young. If you'd like to submit work for future inclusion, check out the submission guidelines.
