5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/5 – 11/7
Happy Friday, everybody. There are a ton of great events happening around town this weekend, and most of them are totally family friendly. Here’s a list of my top five things you’ve got to check out this weekend:
1. “9 to 5″, the Orpheum Theatre, Friday – Sunday, matinee and evening shows, $25 – $95
Dolly Parton’s hilarious musical about three secretaries who, fed up with sexism, plot to take down their boss is showing at the Orpheum this weekend. The touring Broadway cast is fantastic, the script is charming, and the music has all of the sass and spunk of Dolly’s greatest hits. There are evening shows tonight, Saturday and Sunday, and matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday.
2. Bomb the Blight, Washington Bottoms (in Midtown), Saturday, 12 p.m., free
There’s going to be a bombing in Midtown tomorrow at high noon. Guerrilla blight fighter Tommy will be shooting “bombs” made of wildflower seeds and biodegradable paint out of a pressure cannon at the huge empty area just east of Cleveland and Poplar. Anyone is welcome to come out, throw some smaller “hand grenades” and shoot the cannon.
3. Rock’n'Romp, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Saturday, 2 p.m., kids free, $5 adults
The weather may be a wee bit chilly, but it’s not going to stop the rock tomorrow afternoon at the Metal Museum. Harlan T. Bobo, Bake Sale and the Perfect Vessels will be playing an afternoon of kid-friendly rock’n'roll. There’s free food from Central Barbecue and Whole Foods and free beer for the adults. Remember, if you want to attend, you have to bring a kid (but it doesn’t have to be yours).
4. Race for Grace, Shelby Farms, Saturday, 8:30 a.m., $25 registration
The Race for Grace is a 5K and 1-mile fun walk/run that benefits the Church Health Center. It’s a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together for a morning run. There are awards for both races. You can register tomorrow at the event for either race. All of the proceeds benefit the Church Health Center.
5. Eroica Ensemble, Baron Hirsch Synagogue, Sunday, 7 p.m., free
The Eroica Ensemble is putting on a free classical music concert on Sunday night at Baron Hirsch Synagogue in East Memphis. The program is Sibelius’ Violin Concerto (with soloist Saeka Matsuyama) and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4.
If none of those events are to your liking, check out the full I Love Memphis calendar for more. No matter what you do this weekend, have a great time.

11:20 am
Wait is Bake Sale the name of a band? So misleading, haha.
12:19 pm
I’ll just call up a friend real quick. “Hey man, can I borrow your toddler for a few hours? Yeah, there’s free beer at the Harlan T. Bobo show.”
3:13 pm
The Race for Grace is at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, 5530 Shady Grove Rd. Thanks for the shout out!

When visiting Mephis,
I ate at this Chinese Resturant,
that cooks the best soul food, ever.
I saw a man seated, not far from me,
with his friends, as I was leaving he caught my eye.
I will never forget his kind honest face,
his soft friendly nonflirtatious smile.
I made friends with a lot of people.
Some, I am still friends with.
People were very friendly.
Memphis,
is the place to shop until you drop.
Prices are way beyond reasonable.
I went to the Dr. Martin Luther King’s Memorial,
with my children, we happened to be there the day, of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Annversary.
They took pictures
of me standing beside John Lenon’s Piano.
Very politely,
I was asked if I would give permission, for them to put my pictures in John Lenon’s Book. I was to pick up copies, but was busy exploring Memphis, to do so.
Visiting Dr. Martin Luther Kings Memorial
was very educational and very imformative.
I would advice
everyone to visit, read and learn, there’s much to learn.
Memphis, again thanks for making my stay rewarding.
A City of kind People, is my oppion.
Thankyou again,
Faith Amme Barnes
