At the recommendation of a reader (hi, Stephy!), I made a trip out to Le Gourmet Pastry in Bartlett this afternoon. I came back with this awesome coconut cake. I loved the layers of light, creamy custard on circles of spongy cake, topped with shredded coconut. It’s way more delicate than I thought it would be.
I also picked up some pistachio merengues, which were delicious, but impossible to eat without making a huge, powdery mess.
Le Gourmet is a full French bakery – they’ve got all sorts of pastries, bread, rolls and quiches. There are a few tables in the small shop, and they have a daily lunch special.

I LOVE their breads and pastries. Their bread & baguettes are almost as good as La Baguette on Poplar.

I think they may have closed after I wrote the post. If you’re looking for coconut cake, you might try it at Bardog Tavern or Beauty Shop.
