Exercise Your Freedom of Choice at YoLo
I've heard stories from friends that have lived in larger cities about ice cream shops where you can pick out your own flavors and then top them as you see fit. I figured that such places were too good to be true.
That is, until YoLo opened.
The beauty of YoLo is that there are very few rules. You pick up a cup at the beginning of the line and then fill it with as much frozen yogurt as you want. They've got eight flavors daily. Some are traditional (chocolate, vanilla, birthday cake), others are more exotic (blueberry tart and pomegranate were options yesterday).
Once you've got your yogurt, you can top it with anything from the toppings bar. There are more than 20 options: fresh fruit from local orchards, cereal, gummy bears, cookies, and locally made granola. At the end of the line, you weigh your cup and pay by the ounce.
I filled my cup with a combination of pomegranate and blueberry tart frozen yogurt. The yogurt was totally high end - the flavor was rich and it was thick and creamy. I topped my yogurt with shredded coconut, fresh strawberries and pineapples, and cookie dough.
When I was there yesterday afternoon, the tidy shop was bustling with families. I would have loved YoLo as a kid. If you've got kids, it's a great place to take them to teach decision making skills. The yogurt costs 45 cents per ounce, so it's affordable enough to go a little crazy with the toppings.
Right now, the only YoLo location is in the Collierville town square, but there's a second YoLo opening in East Memphis in the next few weeks.
