All Night Long: 5 Places To Eat After 2 a.m.
It’s 2 a.m. You’ve been out, maybe seeing a band, maybe hanging out with friends. You’re hungry. The good news is, ff you’re in Memphis, you’ve got options. Here are some local places that are open late for 24 hour party people like you:
1. Gibson’s Donuts (760 Mount Moriah Road)
The beauty of Gibson’s is that it never, ever closes. It’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’ve got a variety of donut options, but you can’t go wrong with the World’s Fair donut. Insider tip: the donuts are at their warm, gooey best around 4 a.m.
2. Alex’s Tavern (1445 Jackson Avenue)
Alex’s is a late-night favorite of service industry types, cops, neighborhood locals and Rhodes students. They’ve got an excellent jukebox (I was serenaded with “Ziggy Stardust” by a Rhodes student the last time I was there), and shuffleboard. If you’re hungry, try the Greek burger – it’s greasy, filling and perfect with a PBR. Note – Alex’s is cash only.
3. Cockadoos (85 South 2nd Street)
During the week, Cockadoos is a downtown coffee and lunch spot. On Friday and Saturday nights, they open at midnight, making it the perfect place to grab breakfast on your way home from a night out downtown. Try their house special drink, the Cockawhat with the Shag, a delicious peanut butter and banana french toast monstrosity.
4. CK’s Coffee Shop (locations all over town)
Just about everyone in Memphis has a late-night-at-CK’s story. The local chain is under new management, and they’ve done a little bit of menu revamping. Don’t worry, though – CK’s will always be more Waffle House than Chez Phillipe. Expect greasy spoon breakfasts, decent coffee and plenty of interesting people watching.
5. Pancake Shop (4838 Summer Avenue)
The Pancake Shop on Summer is utilitarian and efficient, but it it totally gets the job done. It’s a classic all-night diner. The food is decent (if a little greasy), and you can expect the waitresses to call you “baby” and “honey” and “darlin’”.

11:51 am
Ubees is open for dine in and delivery until 3. Their food is delicious whether a greasy burger or a salad. Everyone make sure to try on of Gibson’s Pumpkin Donuts when they come out. The glazed pumpkin is like their blueberry (but with obvious differences).

Don’t forget Westy’s.
11:53 am
Westy’s is open Downtown in the Pinch until 3am as well. Serving a full Menu, and NOT on Beale Street. Try their ribs, hot fudge pie, or fried catfish.
2:51 pm
My first month at Memphis I stopped at the Pancake Shop for a quick bite after a movie. When I saw that they serve bacon (!) pancakes I got really, REALLY excited. I’d finally found a place to call home.
3:06 pm
Let us not forget Denny’s across from The Peabody. Is a little on the funky side, but, when is 2AM and The Peabody bar closes, is just a short walk across Union.
5:07 pm
I love Gibson’s donuts. It has been a looooong time since I have been there, but good memories.
8:00 pm
OMG! I can’t believe Alex’s is still around! My grandaddy used to go there! They used to have a pic of Custer’s Last Stand!

Thanks for this post! I am a downtown resident and I am always interested in great places to dine after hours. Any tips on Chinese delivery in the area?
By the way love your blog. I am a new reader and I am thoroughly enjoying it!
