It’s Good, It’s Cheap, It’s Lunch at Chao Praya

The best Thai restaurant in East Memphis is located in a mildly sketchy shopping center in Hickory Hill.

Chao Praya doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside, it’s cozy, welcoming, and way bigger than it seems from the street.

It wasn’t too crowded when I went for lunch today. Chao Praya has a fairly large lunch menu, and everything on it is under $9.

I ordered the Masaman Curry, which is my standard order when I try Thai restaurants – it’s simple, but if you can do it well, you can probably do anything. Chao Praya’s masaman is my new favorite. The curry was awesome – it was a nice blend of sweet and spicy. It came with chicken, onions, cashews, huge chunks of potatoes and a big ball of rice.

Chao Praya is open daily for lunch and dinner. It’s vegetarian and vegan friendly.

  • When my husband and I visited Memphis last Sept to view apartments and get to know our future home a bit more… we tried Chao Praya. We love Thai food… Better than that, we love hole in the wall Thai food. Chao Praya is just that, yet it is very pretty inside. We both had some Thai Tea (yum!) and ordered entres. We were one of a few tables and felt like we owned the place! The food is yummy, the wait staff is very polite and it’s great for romance or for a family meal!!!

Love this place! Everyone should try it out!

  • Their pad thai is the best I’ve had in Memphis! The Chao Praya toast appetizer isn’t half bad either.

  • dang. the secret is out now!
