Snack on Some Ice Chips

Snack on Some Ice Chips

I was really hoping the Ice Chips at Dinstuhl's were going to be cold. They're not.

Ice Chips from Dinstuhl's Fine Candies

I think I was expecting some kind of ice cream or frozen bonbon. Alas, I was wrong on both counts.

What they are is kind of oddly delicious. They're squares of soft, creamy pastel candy with little chunks of tart hard candy mixed in, kind of like a fruity version of peppermint bark. Though they come in pink, green, orange and yellow, the colors don't seem to have much bearing on the flavors.

Still a little confused? Here's a close-up.

If you're curious, pick up a box at Dinstuhls and grab some friends for a taste test. I'm interested to know if any of you can tell a difference in flavor between the green and yellow chips.

Sounds delicious. I've seen nationally distributed versions of similar things; at Target, for instance. But nobody does sweet stuff like Dinstuhl's. When I read your headline I was expecting something like chips of flavored ice-cubes--like a summery cousin of Kool-Aid pickles. Yeah, a bit disappointed. Still, I am unshaken in my conviction that Southerners can make any food or near-food sweet.

Interesting! It's sad that the colors don't have any bearing on the flavors, that would make it more interesting! =)
