Donut Day, Dog Parks, and a European Moment

Donut Day, Dog Parks, and a European Moment

The Most French Thing Ever

This is possibly the most European thing that happened in Memphis this morning - a Vespa was parked outside of La Baguette bakery.

In other news:

- It's donut day! (Seriously - I've seen more than one person mention it on Facebook). To celebrate, pay a visit to Gibson's, Memphis' only 24-hour donut shop.

- Memphis' very first city-sanction dog park opened today. It's in Midtown, behind the board of education building on Avery. The park is 1.5 acres of fenced-in space, which is comforting if your dog is a runner. There's a separate area for dogs under 25 lbs, so you don't have to worry about my 80 lbs of crazy lab mix trampling your pug.

National Doughnut Day (the first Friday in June) honors the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I. Here's a 1918 poster of the Salvation Army Lassie from the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library.
