Downtown workers, rejoice! There’s finally a coffee shop in the downtown core. Cockadoos opened last week in the old Cafe 61 space on Second St.
Cockadoos is a cheerful place – the walls are painted bright yellow, the space is open and airy and the staff is incredibly friendly.
I stopped in this morning to grab some breakfast. They’ve got a full breakfast menu, but the blueberry scones looked too tasty to resist. My scone was large and dense (and still toasty when I pulled it out of the bag three blocks later).
Cockadoos has a large drink menu of coffee, lattes and specialty drinks. I got the house specialty, the Cockawhat. When I asked what it was, the barista told me that it tasted like s’mores. For the record, it tasted a lot like s’mores. It had espresso, mocha, and a few marshmallows for good measure.
If you’re not a morning person, Cockadoos has a full lunch menu, soups and a salad bar. They’ve got wi-fi, too (just ask for the password).
Cockadoos is open 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. during the week, and 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
