I just noticed today how Memphis-y my desk is, especially on particular corner. Yes, that's my jar of Mississippi River water.

In other news:

- In the next few weeks, I'm going to be launching a very short weekly podcast called "Ask a Memphian Anything". In order to launch it, though, I need your questions. Is there something you've always wanted to know about Memphis? Is there an aspect of Memphis culture that confuses you? Do you have burning questions about why things are the way they are in the Bluff city?  Leave a your question in a comment or email me.

- The Breakfast Brackets are in the Final Four. Here's how the next round is going down: each of my meals will be chosen by a special breakfast guest. The meal will be judged as a whole, and meal's score will count twice. I'll continue awarding points for atmosphere, service, and price.

- You've still got time to vote for Skatelife Memphis to win the Pepsi grant for $250,000. Right now, they're ranked 16th. To win, they need to be 1st or 2nd. You can vote daily until the 30th (I've actually been able to vote more than once per day).

okay, this is random, but here's a question for your ask a memphian gig... why do memphians wack their crepe myrtles down to mere stubs every spring? i grew up here and thought that this was simply the only way to care for the trees until recently, when some memphis imports asked me this very same question. apparently, people in other cities do not feel the need to prune the trees so severly. in other places, crepe myrtles are allowed to grow big and tall. what gives?
