A Preview of the Cake for the I Love Memphis Party
I'm getting really excited about Monday's I Love Memphis party at South of Beale. Things are falling into place - I've got a handful of great stuff to give away, Ed from SOB has put together some great drink specials, and there's going to be cake.
The cake is being donated by Katee and Chris Forbis, the owners of Westside Cakes in West Memphis. Even though they live in Arkansas, Katee and Chris love Memphis. They frequently make the trip across the bridge to go to basketball games, eat, shop and see bands at the HiTone.
They opened Westside Cakes about a month ago. Katee thought it was important to try to bring some quirky, independent business to West Memphis. Chris, a contractor by trade, decorates the cakes. His skill as a contractor leads to amazing things - a Nintendo DS cake that was made for a birthday party had hinges that enabled the cake to open and close.
Judging by the cupcakes that Katee sent home with me, the cake for the party is going to be awesome. The s'mores cupcake was amazing - it had a layer of crunchies, chocolate cake, some salty-sweet icing and marshmallows. Yum.
You can try some of their awesome cake at the I Love Memphis party at South of Beale on March 22nd.
