Memphis Jones does MRD, Brewer does the Brooks

Last week, Memphis Jones and the Backbeat Memphis posse crashed a Memphis Roller Derby practice at the Fairgrounds. We did our best to show him what roller derby is all about, but I think he might need some skates before he gets on the track again.

Also, Backbeat just launched their brand new store, so pick up some gear and represent!

In other news, the Brooks Museum is hosting a screening / talk with big-deal local filmmaker Craig Brewer tonight. He’ll show some footage from his early career, talk about his inspirations and show a feature film called “The Celebration”.

I’ve started working on some FourSquare tours of Memphis. I’m doing three (to start): one for Midtown, one for food, and one for Memphis music. I’ve got a few suggestions already, but I’d love more. I’m thinking prizes for people that complete the tours and trying to get badges made. If you’ve got suggestions, leave them in the comments.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.

I would like a Four Square tour that only has places with free wifi. I have an iTouch but not a smart phone, so I can only ‘check in’ from places with free wifi. 😉 So, that’s why I don’t get to check in very many places. Boo. But I like your idea, it sounds really fun.
